Personnel Announcement
President George W. Bush today announced his intention to nominate
Carlos M. Gutierrez, of Michigan, to be Secretary of Commerce. Mr.
Gutierrez currently serves as Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive
Officer of the Kellogg Company. Mr. Gutierrez began working for
Kellogg in Mexico City, Mexico nearly 30 years ago. In 1982, he was
promoted to Supervisor for Latin American marketing services and
transferred to the corporate headquarters in Battle Creek, Michigan.
Two years later, Mr. Gutierrez was named General Manager of Kellogg de
Mexico. In 1989, he was appointed President and Chief Executive
Officer of Kellogg Canada, Inc.
Mr. Gutierrez went on to serve as Executive Vice President of Sales
and Marketing for Kellogg USA and then President of Kellogg
Asia-Pacific. In 1998, he was appointed President and Chief Operating
Officer. He was elected to the company's Board of Directors and was
named President and Chief Executive Officer in 1999.
Mr. Gutierrez is a co-trustee of the W. K. Kellogg Foundation
Trust. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the
Colgate-Palmolive Company and Grocery Manufacturers of America.
