Today, President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. made additional disaster assistance available to the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico by authorizing an increase in the level of federal funding for emergency work undertaken in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico as a result of Hurricane Fiona during the period of September 17 to September 21, 2022.

Under the President’s major disaster declaration issued for the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico on September 21, 2022, federal funding was made available for debris removal and emergency protective measures, including direct federal assistance, under the Public Assistance program at 100 percent of the total eligible costs for a period of 30 days from the start of the incident period.         

Under the President’s order today, an extension of the period of 100 percent federal funding for debris removal and emergency protective measures, including direct federal assistance, from 30 to 60 days from the start of the incident period.
