Office of Pandemic Preparedness and Response Policy
The Office of Pandemic Preparedness and Response Policy (OPPR) within the Executive Office of the President leads and coordinates actions related to preparedness for, and response to, known and unknown biological threats and pathogens that could lead to a pandemic or to significant public health-related disruptions in the United States.
Established by Congress in 2022 by the Prepare for and Respond to Existing Viruses, Emerging New Threats, and Pandemics Act (PREVENT Pandemics Act), OPPR:
- Advises the President on pandemic preparedness and response policy;
- Drives interagency strategic coordination and communication in preparation for, and in response to, domestic and global pandemic and biological threats;
- Promotes and supports the development of relevant expertise and capabilities within the Federal Government to ensure that the United States can quickly detect, identify, and respond to such threats.
Under President Biden, Major General (ret) Paul Friedrichs serves as Director and Nikki Romanik serves as Deputy Director & Chief of Staff.
