About the Creator Economy Conference

The Office of Digital Strategy hosted the first-ever White House Creator Economy Conference on August 14, 2024. This event brought together a broad group of digital creators and industry professionals to discuss the most pressing issues within the creator economy. The conference provided a platform for dialogue between these creators and industry professionals, and key administration officials, focusing on topics such as privacy, fair pay, artificial intelligence, mental health, and more.

The goal of this conference was to foster meaningful conversations and provide attendees with an opportunity to make their voices heard, while also allowing members of the Administration to learn from creators’ experiences and insights.

Participating officials included: President Joe Biden, Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo, White House Domestic Policy Advisor Neera Tanden, Director of the Office and Science and Technology Policy Arati Prabhakar, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, as well as Office of Digital Strategy Director, Deputy Director, and Senior Advisor Christian Tom, Tericka Lambert, and Patrick Stevenson.

Continuing to Support Creators and Meet Americans Where They Are

This Biden-Harris Administration has taken historic steps to engage digital creators, and works hard to meet Americans where they are. Officials at the highest level of this White House have engaged creators extensively, hosting regular virtual and in-person briefings with digital creators on policy issues, hosting State of the Union watch events for creators at the White House, and, last year, hosting the first ever White House Holiday Party for digital creators.

The Administration publicly supports a creator’s choice to use AI in ways that support their work and has said that workers should enjoy the gains and opportunities of AI as it is deployed. His landmark AI executive order directed actions across government that support creators and workers – including ensuring that creators who use AI to help develop intellectual property remain eligible for patents. In addition, the Biden-Harris Administration has made it a priority to protect young people from the harms that can be associated with social media and online platforms. From creating interagency task forces, to launching a Center of Excellence, to calling on Congress to pass major bipartisan legislation, our focus is on improving kids’ privacy, safety, and health online, particularly against the backdrop of an unprecedented youth mental health crisis.
